If any of you ‘Beyonders’ are looking here, the boards are back up and running. You will need to access them via a new url: http://edgeofbeyond.net – note there is no www (same as this site) and no trailing ‘/boards’ folder to access the site. It took a while to get it up and running and organised but hopefully things will be going smoothly. Please login and let me know of any problems – if you can’t login, send me an e-mail and I’ll check out what the problem is. Hopefully I won’t have any similar problems in getting ReBoot Mayhem up and running that I did with the boards, though RBM doesn’t have “149992 posts in 5080 topics by 485 members”!!!

I’ve successfully exported and imported the database for the Edge of Beyond forums, installed the forums on the new host and have been making sure everything is there. Its good! The only thing is the forums look a little whacky as they need to be re-setup to look the way they were, however all the members and posts are there which was my main concern. I’ll be pointing the domain name servers probably after I get home from an engagement party tomorrow night. It will take about 24 hours for the dns to update itself, after which the site will be live (though still in maintenance mode so I can fix up the visual errors). I’m still not 100% sure if everything is completely A-OK but it looks promising so far. ^_^b

There’s been some further problems with connecting to my other two sites still hosted under smoovenet, namely they are not connecting properly to the databases and keep timing out. Most likely visitors have had trouble getting into the sites – you can keep reloading the page until it connects (which it does eventually) – and its rather frustrating right now as I lead up to the transferrance (sp?) of the sites across to a new host.

Smoovenet themselves have now come out and admitted the truth – they are no longer interested in hosting sites anymore (their wording was more to the ‘we can’t offer the support as in the past’) and have given us until the end of September to get our sites off their servers and onto someone else’s. It wasn’t really a great way to go and I am still disappointed with them but ultimately discovered I had a lot less freedom on their servers than I thought.

ReBoot Mayhem and Edge of Beyond were definitely moving anyway, it was more or less me waiting until the opportune time (and when the money was available lol) in order to transfer them to a new host. That and I was still making sure that the host this site and Animay are currently on are what I want for RBM and EoB. So far these past few months have been really good and I’ve been impressed though admittedly I’ve not run into problems that I needed to test their support out on just yet so I’m still a little hesitant. But Mayhem-Online and Animay have been doing fine so far so I don’t see why there would be any issues around creating new accounts for the other sites here.

The account will be created by Thursday or Friday of this week, with EoB packing up and moving across first over the weekend (Sept 5th-6th). Shortly after that I’ll be moving RBM across too. Pixelacious is the only site not being moved, it will be deleted instead. I apologise to any fans who submitted their artwork to Pixelacious but the original idea was to get image galleries integrated within RBM and EoB rather than a third separate site. If I can get these up and running, fans already members of the Edge of Beyond forums will be able to submit their own work there without having to re-sign up anywhere. They will be open for all fans to view as well. The galleries that may be integrated into the RBM website will mainly be for screencaps and other, possibly official stuff like wallpapers etc. This is the plan anyway.

The only issue I have is the downloading of video clips. An ftp account was setup on RBM specifically for these downloads however my new host doesn’t reall allow this so all downloads may be moved off site to a free file host account that I currently use (if you’ve downloaded any of my archived Animay clips or the music from this site then you’ll know of the account). We’ll see how things progress after everything has been shifted. Video clips and the like will be the last thing I’ll worry about.

If you are a regular poster or visitor of either RBM or Edge of Beyond, feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions, namely post  them here if you can’t get into EoB, there’s not a lot I can do about the connectivity issues with that site until after its been moved.
