Working Again

Today is my last day of freedom before returning to work. Actually yesterday was my official last day before returning to work but the last few days have been stressful and since I had gone into work on the first Monday of my actual holidays I thought I’d do a straight swap and make today the holiday that I should have had on that Monday. Make sense? Anyway I didn’t get a wink of sleep the night before mostly due to back problems. A couple of days ago my mother, who lives with me, had a nasty fall. It was her fault to begin with. She’s into gardening and loves it to bits so the outside is her domain lol. She was busy doing stuff all day in the garden and then left her tools out so that she could continue in the morning. Bad idea. After we’d had dinner, she remembered that the garden tool shed door was open so she went out to close it and… tripped over her tools lying on the ground. We have a two-seater outdoor lounge seat that actually swings though its been out in the weather a bit too much and is a little bit worse for wear. My mum went face first into the swing, the swing seat moved but not far as it was right up against the garden shed wall so as soon as it impacted the wall, it sent a rather nasty shockwave down my mum’s neck and spine. She was really worried she had broken her neck, though the fact she could walk made me have some relief that it can’t have been bad enough to paralyse her. We ended up at the hospital just to make sure nothing was broken and thankfully she was fine, just her muscles are going to be sore for a while. She’s fairly active for her age (she just turned 80 this year!) and doesn’t often act her age, doing things that she probably shouldn’t be doing (like shifting heavy furniture, paving the backyard just to name a few things she does when I’ve got my back turned). So I’ve been running around making sure she’s not doing anything too stressful that will put more pressure on her shoulders where she had the most pain, and in the end giving myself back pains.

But I can’t use it as an excuse to stay away from work. We’re not an overly stressful environment… at least not physically, and since I still have a buggered ankle (it still bothers me from time to time), I can’t exactly do much at work that will exacerbate it unless I sit at my desk for too long, though that almost never happens anyway.

Speaking of work, I’ve been hearing that there were problems with the temp who took my place. Mostly in that she was more of a nuisance to my work colleagues though nobody’s divulged the full details. I’ll find that out for myself tomorrow when I come in to start tidying up after her. That’s going to be the most annoying thing, though also having to get myself settled in my new spot since I’ve not been there since we moved is also going to add to the ‘fun times’ I have ahead of me. Granted, though, I actually have no intention of getting stressed out over anything. A lot of people there stress about things all the time, about how this is put on them and that is put on them and how they have to get it done ASAP. Work is work and regardless of what it is, it’ll still be there tomorrow and the day after that. Its stupid to get stressed over something that could come up again in the future several times. If you know its coming, then do something about it and move on, there’s no need to get out the ‘oh woe is me’ flag and try and get everyone’s sympathy. So I’m taking it one day at a time when I go back because I really don’t need the stress from work to add to the stress of family life.

Like I mentioned in my previous post I didn’t really achieve a lot while on holiday, though I did move forward a bit more with the reconstruction of ReBoot Mayhem. I was really getting somewhere with it and then I got side-tracked again though its not far from the back of my mind and I’m determined to get it done – it just won’t be quickly. And its something I don’t want to get stressed out about either. I did try playing the old PS1 game Vagrant Story since it has a similar battle system to  FFXII but I got bored with it almost immediately lol. Its a good game but the graphics annoyed me and I guess I’m used to hearing voices now instead of the little speech bubbles popping up. I did, however, have another go at Final Fantasy IX and managed to get as far as the 4th Disc and into Memoria before boredom took over again. Maybe I might have another crack at Dirge of Cerberus since it is a PS2 title and there are voices in it lol – though it still seems weird since I’m used to hearing the original Japanese seiyuus for the characters rather than the dubbed english ones.

I did watch quite a bit of anime, though I didn’t spend all of my time watching anime and playing games. I went out several times, I read my book (though I’m still going a bit too slow on it), I played with my cat, I did a bit of spring-cleaning even though its Autumn, and I relaxed as much as possible. It was good and I was fairly relaxed… until the last few days which I’ve already described above. To be honest, I’d rather not return to work at all, but I need the money to pay off the mortgage and all the other bills so unless I win money on X-Lotto (which I hardly go into anyway) its back to work for me.

*sigh*
