The Week In Review

Its Sunday again. Back to work tomorrow. Actually I’ve been off work since Wednesday so this will be my first full week coming up (pending nothing else happens). Last Tuesday as I was stepping out the door to go to work, my knee gave out and I fell sideways. I didn’t actually fall right down, but my ankle bent sideways and the pain that shot through me knocked the breath out of me. It took me a moment to recover and my ankle was really sore, but I was already on my way to work. It was a stupid idea though. At work I’m never sitting at my desk the whole day, usually I’m up and down from my desk, going to our printer, or going to the big color printer in the centre of the floor, or walking up and down the stairs to some of the closer floors to ours, or heading down to another section and walking around looking for the people I need to deal with. Or standing discussing issues with others for long periods of time. My boss was away for the bulk of the morning and wouldn’t you know it, all hell broke loose. The politicians were back on the job with their parliament sittings and of course our Minister’s office were going beserk ringing us to get information on this and data on that. It ended up being me having to run around after everybody since I was the one who kept getting pestered by the Minister’s office for the information. By the end of the day, not only was my ankle in extreme pain, but so was my back as I couldn’t walk properly and limped most of the time. I was near tears with the pain, and thankfully most of the crap that hit the fan happened in the morning and I managed to leave and head home early. Of course, my ankle was swollen to the size of a soccer ball… well okay it was the size of a tennis ball but it was huge! Putting an ice pack on it made it even more painful but I knew it was the only way to reduce the swelling. Put some medicated lotion on it (the stuff that usually feels like its burning your skin off) and then wrapped it up tight. I couldn’t walk properly and the pain was still pretty bad so I ended up having Wednesday and Thursday off of work. I had already picked Friday as my ‘flexi’ or ‘rostered day off’ so I felt that having the full 5 days would give me a better chance of healing before I went back to work. Today is the first day I’ve had the bandage off all day, though the muscles are feeling a bit weird at the moment. It will definitely have to be rebandaged in the morning, no way am I going to work while its still a bit tender. The bruise that ran from the tip of my small toe to the back of my heel is starting to fade a little, though it was only ever the bone itself that was sore.

So I haven’t been doing a lot, and have been feeling rather lazy, though there were plenty of things I probably could have (or should have) done while I had this time off lol. Friday was when the Foxtel guy came. It only took him about half an hour to install it so now I’ve got a connection in two rooms. And the first thing I did after he’d installed it? I switched off the TV and went back to the PC lol. I have watched it, and have been able to watch the Sci-Fi Channel which is great. Even though I’m the one paying for it, I don’t seem to be given the opportunity to actually watch Foxtel lol, so this is definitely a bonus now that I have it in a second room. The only thing is that I didn’t put the movie channels in my package, but then I usually wait till stuff comes out on DVD or.. heh… download it ;-P Not always though. I’m usually too busy downloading anime lol.

I bought a couple of new PS2 games but have only played one of them so far. And I’ve just worked out my problem with gaming. See I start up a game on a Friday night and usually get really into it. Then I play it all day Saturday and most of the day on Sunday. Then I have to put it aside as Monday comes along and its time to go to work. When I come home, however, I don’t really feel like playing the game so I put it off till the next night. And the night after that. And the night after that…. You see the pattern? This is why I never finish games! Eventually I have no interest in playing the game and its left alone for a long period of time before I decide to start it up again. I must admit, though, that I really did enjoy playing Dragon Quest VIII – great game! The other game I got was Drakengard 2 but I haven’t even touched that game yet. I had a voucher left over which I had to use at Myers by January 31 but you can only use it when you use your Myercard (store credit card). So I went down to Myers one lunchtime and just wandered around a bit, looking in sections that I would only buy in (CDs/DVDs/Games/Perfume/Shoes) and decided I’d buy some games. Since Myers don’t have a lot of games, these two titles were the only ones that actually interested me so I bought them.

Well my new mobile phone has just shown me its first bad sign. The java games don’t work anymore. It just hangs on “Please wait” and doesn’t go any further. If you hit the cancel button, you briefly see the menu screen that you would normally see, but that’s about it. I had downloaded a copy of the Sims2 to my phone which was interesting to play, but that stopped working and I haven’t been able to play any game on the phone since. Not that I really care, but it is annoying since its a brand new phone.

Only 5 weeks to go till I’m on leave again. Woohoo! :D I’m really looking forward to the time off again. I know, I’ve been off half a week and I had a reasonable break over the Xmas holidays but seriously this time I am really looking forward to the time off. I think anybody who works where I do looks forward to having time off lol. One of my work colleagues is about to go on leave, but she’ll be back on deck for one week before I go on leave. I probably won’t end up having a lot to do (though if I haven’t done anything further with any of my sites I’d better get my ass into gear and do something then!), but I will be popping out to meet up with some friends from my previous workplace and catching up with some friends for dinner as well so I’ll be looking forward to that.

My leg is getting numb. Since I did my ankle in I keep having to get up every now and then to walk around a bit as my leg keeps getting numb all the time from just sitting for a long stretch at a time. I think I’ll go for a bit of a walk and then come back to watch some more anime :)
